This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 626.8516, to extend deadlines related to the intensive comprehensive law enforcement education and training program. Specifically, the deadlines for the preparation of grant application forms, the development of the training curriculum, and the designation of education providers have been pushed from December 31, 2023, to December 31, 2026. Additionally, the bill removes the requirement for the education providers to be nonprofit organizations. The effective date for these amendments is retroactively set to July 1, 2023.
Furthermore, the bill includes an appropriation of $5,000,000 from the general fund for fiscal year 2026 to support the Office of Justice Programs in continuing the intensive comprehensive peace officer education and training program. This funding is available until June 30, 2029, and the effective date for this appropriation is the day following final enactment.
