This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.001, to modify trespass laws by allowing the use of purple markings as a means of indicating property boundaries. A new subdivision is added to define "forest land" as land with at least ten percent tree cover that will reach a height of 13 feet at maturity and shows evidence of natural tree regeneration. The bill also updates existing language to include "marked" alongside "posted" in the context of entering private land for outdoor recreation, requiring permission from the landowner, occupant, or lessee.

Additionally, the bill specifies that landowners can prohibit outdoor recreation by placing identifying purple paint marks on trees and other permanent objects, with specific requirements for the size, placement, and visibility of these marks. The bill outlines that these marks must be placed at intervals of no more than 100 feet on forest land and 1,000 feet on other types of land. It also clarifies that individuals retrieving wounded game may enter unposted or unmarked land without permission but must leave immediately after retrieving the game.
