The bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299C.80, subdivision 6, to enhance public access to information regarding officer-involved death investigations conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. It specifies that within 30 days of a case becoming inactive, the Bureau must make available to the public reports, audio, photographs, and any video that documents the actions and circumstances surrounding the officer-involved death. This replaces the previous requirement that information be made public only after the end of the last criminal appeal of a subject of the investigation.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the Bureau provide the governor and relevant legislative committee chairs and ranking minority members with detailed information about the unit's activities. This includes the number of investigations initiated, incidents investigated, outcomes or current statuses of investigations, charging decisions made, plea agreements reached, and any other pertinent information related to the unit's mission. These changes aim to improve transparency and accountability in officer-involved death investigations.
