This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.001, to modify trespass laws by allowing the use of purple markings as a means of indicating prohibited areas for outdoor recreation. A new subdivision is added to define "forest land" as land with at least ten percent tree cover that will reach a height of 13 feet at maturity and shows evidence of natural tree regeneration. The bill also updates existing language to include "marked" alongside "posted" in the context of entering private land without permission.

Additionally, the bill specifies the requirements for using purple paint marks to indicate restricted areas. These marks must be vertical lines of at least eight inches in length and one inch in width, placed between three to five feet from the ground, and positioned to be visible to approaching individuals. The spacing of these marks is regulated, with a maximum distance of 100 feet apart on forest land and 1,000 feet apart on other types of land. The bill also clarifies that individuals may not erect signs or place marks on land where they do not have property rights.
