This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 97B.001, to modify trespass laws by allowing the use of purple markings to indicate property boundaries. A new subdivision is added to define "forest land" as land with at least ten percent tree cover that will reach a height of 13 feet at maturity and shows evidence of natural tree regeneration. The bill also updates the existing subdivision regarding entering posted or marked land, specifying that individuals must obtain permission before entering such areas for outdoor recreation.

Additionally, the bill outlines the requirements for placing purple paint marks on trees, posts, or other permanent objects to indicate property boundaries. These marks must be vertical lines of at least eight inches in length and one inch in width, positioned between three to five feet off the ground, and spaced no more than 100 feet apart on forest land or 1,000 feet apart on other types of land. The bill also clarifies that individuals may not erect signs or place marks prohibiting trespassing on land where they do not have property rights.
