The bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 124D.901, subdivision 4, to expand the allowable uses of student support personnel aid. It specifies that the aid must be utilized to enhance student support services, which includes hiring or contracting personnel, as well as covering costs related to transportation, equipment, supplies, informational materials, communications, or personnel training. The language also clarifies that districts may use the aid to create new positions for student support services personnel, increase service hours for existing positions, or maintain positions that would otherwise be eliminated.
Additionally, the bill allows for the use of student support personnel aid for contracted services from licensed professionals such as school counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, or chemical dependency counselors if a district is unable to hire a new full-time equivalent position. The changes are set to take effect for revenue in fiscal year 2026 and later.
