This bill assigns the responsibility for the maintenance and use of the Old Williams School property to the commissioner of natural resources, removing Lake of the Woods County's management duties as outlined in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 282. The commissioner will work in consultation with the commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to oversee the property.

Additionally, the bill mandates that by February 1, 2026, the commissioner of natural resources must submit a report to the relevant legislative committees detailing options for the cleanup, maintenance, and utilization of the Old Williams School site. The provisions of this bill will take effect the day after it is enacted.
