This bill amends various sections of the Minnesota Statutes related to speech-language pathology assistants and their supervision requirements. It clarifies the definition of a speech-language pathology assistant, specifying that they must provide services under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist in accordance with sections 122A.183 and 122A.184. The bill also outlines the supervision requirements, stating that a supervising speech-language pathologist must document a minimum of one hour of consultative supervision every 30 days for each assistant, and must be available for communication whenever the assistant is in direct contact with a client. Additionally, it establishes that a full-time speech-language pathologist can supervise no more than two full-time assistants.
Furthermore, the bill revises the licensure fees for speech-language pathologists and assistants, removing the previous fee amounts of $210.50 and $200 for initial and renewal licenses, respectively, and replacing them with unspecified new amounts. It also eliminates the previous fee of $493 for initial licensure and renewal for speech-language pathology assistants, substituting it with a new fee that is yet to be determined. Lastly, the bill includes an appropriation of funds from the state government special revenue fund for the implementation of the amended statutes in fiscal year 2026.
