This bill mandates the development and implementation of cardiac emergency response plans in Minnesota schools, including both school districts and charter schools, starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The plans must outline specific procedures to address incidents of sudden cardiac arrest and must be based on evidence-based guidelines, such as those from the American Heart Association. Key requirements include the identification of a cardiac emergency response team, the availability of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in accessible locations, training for staff on CPR and AED use, and annual simulations to ensure preparedness. The plans must also be made accessible to the school community and reviewed regularly.

Additionally, the bill amends Minnesota Statutes to require the Minnesota State High School League to adopt a cardiac emergency response plan for interscholastic athletic activities. It also includes a provision for funding to assist schools in implementing these plans, which can be used for purchasing AEDs, CPR training, and other related resources. This funding is a one-time appropriation available until June 30, 2027.
