This bill amends Minnesota Statutes to allow new motor vehicle dealers to participate in auto shows outside their licensed locations without needing an additional license, provided they meet specific conditions. The new provisions include that dealers can participate in such auto shows no more than four times a year, the shows must be held in certain cities, and they cannot take place at a licensed location of any participating dealer. Additionally, the auto shows must have at least ten dealers participating and cannot involve the sale or lease of vehicles, special pricing, or trade-in appraisals.
The bill also updates section 80E.12 to prohibit manufacturers, distributors, or factory branches from preventing dealers from participating in these auto shows. This addition aims to enhance the opportunities for dealers to showcase their vehicles while ensuring that the auto shows adhere to specific guidelines, such as being organized by a tax-exempt trade association and lasting no more than 12 consecutive days. The changes are effective the day following final enactment.
