This bill appropriates $8,856,000 from the general fund for fiscal year 2026 to the commissioner of employment and economic development. The funds are designated for a grant to Union Gospel Mission, Inc., a nonprofit organization, to develop a community engagement center in Duluth aimed at supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. The funding will cover various aspects of the project, including the predesign, design, construction, furnishing, and equipping of the center, which will feature a commercial kitchen, warming center space, health service facilities, classrooms, offices, and laundry and hygiene facilities.
Additionally, the bill specifies that this appropriation is a one-time allocation and will remain available until the project is either completed or abandoned, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 16A.642. The effective date of this section is set for the day following its final enactment.
