This bill proposes the addition of a new section to Minnesota Statutes, chapter 299A, allowing for the acceptance of certain gifts related to the line of duty death of a public safety officer. It defines key terms such as "gift," "killed in the line of duty," "plaque," and "public safety officer," and establishes criteria under which gifts may be given. Specifically, gifts can be accepted if a public safety officer from the same agency or political subdivision has been killed in the line of duty, the gift is given within 24 months of the officer's death, and the gift serves to honor, commemorate, or enhance team morale.

The bill also stipulates that these provisions take precedence over existing laws, specifically sections 10A.071 and 471.895, which may otherwise restrict the acceptance of such gifts. The effective date of this new law is set for the day following its final enactment, applying to gifts given on or after that date.
