The Senate resolution commends Mark Peihl for his 38 years of dedicated service to the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County (HCSCC). After graduating with a history degree from the University of North Dakota, Peihl initially worked as an armored car driver before volunteering with HCSCC. In January 1986, he became the first full-time archivist for Clay County, overseeing the archives and collections, as well as the museum at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, which features significant exhibits like the Hjemkomst Viking Ship and the Hopperstad Stave Church.
Throughout his tenure, Peihl has adapted to numerous technological changes and has contributed significantly to local history through research, writing, and public presentations. He has created numerous exhibits, authored scholarly articles for newsletters, and delivered over 1,000 presentations to thousands of people, effectively serving as a history teacher in his community. The resolution recognizes his commitment to preserving and promoting the history of Clay County and directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare an authenticated copy of the resolution for Peihl.
