This bill amends Minnesota Statutes to modify the training requirements for nursing assistants and medication aides. Specifically, it updates the competency evaluation program for nursing assistants by allowing tests to be administered by approved technical colleges and community colleges, and mandates that written portions of the evaluation be available in multiple languages commonly spoken by prospective nursing assistants. Additionally, it stipulates that nursing assistants in good standing from other states are not required to undergo a competency evaluation in Minnesota. The effective date for these changes is set for January 1, 2025.

Furthermore, the bill revises the eligibility criteria for administering medications in nursing facilities by allowing graduates of foreign nursing schools who have completed an approved competency evaluation to do so. The previous requirement for completion of a specific program offered through a postsecondary educational institution has been replaced with a broader requirement for any approved training by the commissioner of health. This change also takes effect on January 1, 2025.
