1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring St. Cloud StandDown on 25 years of helping veterans.
1.3WHEREAS, St. Cloud StandDown was created in 1998 to serve as both a large one-day
1.4event to help homeless veterans as well as a consistent organization to help homeless
veterans
1.5across central Minnesota or those leaving the Veterans Affairs facility or other help
centers; and
1.6WHEREAS, the phrase "stand down" is modeled after a practice from the Vietnam War,
1.7where battle weary soldiers were given the opportunity to renew their sense of spirit,
health, and
1.8well-being; and
1.9WHEREAS, with their motto of "Veterans Helping Veterans," St. Cloud StandDown is
1.10entirely staffed by veterans and volunteers and welcomes every veteran regardless
of service, age,
1.11gender, creed, or need; and
1.12WHEREAS, for 25 years with dignity, honor, and respect, St. Cloud StandDown has assisted
1.13on average 780 veterans a year with housing, employment, and clothing needs; and
1.14WHEREAS, St. Cloud StandDown is involved with Frontline Food Pantry, which for the
1.15past 18 months has given and delivered over 800 boxes of food to veterans in need
of assistance;
1.16and
1.17WHEREAS, the organization is also involved with the Lady Veterans Boutique, which since
1.181999 has been assisting female veterans and military spouses by providing clothes,
shoes, household
1.19items, and food, and by creating a safe environment for women to go to, relax, and
spend time; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21congratulates St. Cloud StandDown for their 25 years of outstanding service to veterans
in their
1.22community.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature
and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to St. Cloud
StandDown.
