The bill appropriates $18,025,000 from the general fund for the design and construction of renovations to historic building 6 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. This funding will cover necessary assessments for environmental and hazardous materials, as well as the remodeling and rehabilitation of the building. Any unspent funds after the completion of design and construction can be used for furnishing and equipping the accommodations, and the appropriation is available until the project is completed or abandoned, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 16A.642.

Additionally, the bill allows the commissioner of veterans affairs to seek federal funding to expand the veterans home by adding up to 39 beds for eligible veterans and their spouses. The state will be responsible for covering any operating costs that exceed the revenue and federal funding received for the facility. Furthermore, the commissioner of administration is authorized to accept contributions from various nonstate sources to help match federal funding for the development of the home. The provisions of this bill will take effect the day after final enactment.
