The bill appropriates $18,896,000 from the general fund for the fiscal year 2024 to the commissioner of administration for the design, construction, furnishing, and equipping of the remodeling and rehabilitation of historic building 6 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. This funding also covers environmental and hazardous materials abatement assessments at the project site. The appropriation is a one-time allocation that remains available until the project is completed or abandoned, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 16A.642.
Additionally, the bill allows the commissioner of veterans affairs to apply for federal funding to expand the veterans home in Minneapolis by adding up to 39 beds for eligible veterans and their spouses. The state will be responsible for covering any operating costs that exceed revenue and federal funding for the facility. The commissioner of administration is also authorized to accept contributions of land or money from various nonstate sources to support the development of the home. The provisions of this bill will take effect the day after final enactment.
