The bill amends the Michigan Insurance Code of 1956 by adding a new section, 3406uu, which mandates that health insurance policies delivered, issued, or renewed in the state must provide benefits for cranial hair prosthesis for individuals under 19 years of age who experience hair loss due to a medical condition or its treatment. The coverage is capped at $3,000 over a period of 36 months and must not be subject to less favorable dollar limits, deductibles, or coinsurance provisions compared to other prosthesis coverage.

Additionally, the bill defines "cranial hair prosthesis" to include both human and synthetic substitutes for cranial hair. The provisions of this amendatory act will take effect 90 days after being enacted into law and will apply to health insurance policies that are delivered, executed, issued, amended, adjusted, or renewed in Michigan, as well as those covering Michigan residents from outside the state.
