The bill amends the Medicaid False Claim Act, specifically section 6, to enhance penalties for individuals who engage in fraudulent activities related to obtaining payments under the social welfare act. It establishes that entering into an agreement or conspiracy to defraud the state by submitting false claims is a felony. The bill replaces the previous reference to the Social Welfare Act with a more specific citation, 1939 PA 280, MCL 400.1 to 400.119b.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that individuals found guilty of violating this section will face imprisonment for a minimum of 2 years and 6 months, up to a maximum of 10 years, or a fine of up to $50,000, or both. The previous language regarding punishment has been removed and replaced with this new sentencing structure. The amendments will take effect 90 days after the bill is enacted into law.
