The proposed bill establishes the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) to address issues related to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The team will consist of directors from various state departments, including the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, and will be chaired by the director or their designee. MPART is tasked with coordinating activities among state and local authorities, researching and implementing PFAS response actions, and ensuring public outreach and education regarding PFAS contamination. The team will also have the authority to create advisory workgroups, accept donations, and coordinate legal and media contacts related to its work.

Additionally, the bill outlines the powers and duties of MPART, which include identifying contaminated sites, developing action plans, establishing communication protocols, and recommending changes to state laws regarding PFAS. MPART will have access to necessary resources and information from other state departments and may consult with outside experts as needed. The act will take effect 90 days after being enacted into law.
