This bill amends the Michigan Insurance Code of 1956 by adding a new section, 3406uu, which establishes specific requirements for health insurers regarding the credentialing process for health care providers. Insurers are mandated to notify applicants of the receipt of their credentialing applications within seven days and provide contact information for the reviewer. The bill prohibits insurers from denying the credentialing process based on the assertion that no additional health providers are needed. Additionally, insurers must inform applicants if their applications are incomplete within 30 days and provide a description of the required items to complete the application.

Furthermore, the bill stipulates that insurers must conclude the credentialing process within 60 days of receiving a complete application and must notify applicants of the outcome in writing or electronically. If a health care provider is credentialed and has a contract with the insurer before providing services, the insurer is required to reimburse the provider for all covered services rendered from the date the completed application was received. The bill also defines key terms related to the credentialing process, including "applicant," "application," "completed credentialing application," and "credentialing."
