The bill amends the Public Health Code to establish Part 95A, which focuses on creating a Uterine Fibroid Database and promoting education about uterine fibroids in Michigan. The Department of Health is tasked with maintaining an electronic database that collects information on the incidence, prevalence, and treatment options for uterine fibroids, while ensuring patient confidentiality. Health professionals who diagnose or treat uterine fibroids are required to submit relevant data to this database. The Department will evaluate the collected data and publish summary reports every two years, with the first report due 180 days after the end of the initial two-year period.
Additionally, the bill mandates the Department, in collaboration with the Michigan boards of medicine and osteopathic medicine, to develop educational materials aimed at increasing public awareness about uterine fibroids, including risk factors and treatment options that do not involve hysterectomy. The Department is also authorized to partner with nonprofit organizations and educational institutions to implement a public awareness campaign. The bill allows the Department to create rules for the implementation of these provisions, including the submission of information by health professionals.
