This bill amends the Revised School Code to enhance the requirements for training and administering epinephrine delivery systems in Michigan schools. It mandates that school boards ensure that schools with at least 10 instructional and administrative staff have at least two trained employees in the use of epinephrine delivery systems, while schools with fewer than 10 staff must have at least one trained employee. The training must be supervised by a licensed registered professional nurse. Additionally, the bill requires school boards to develop policies for the possession and administration of epinephrine delivery systems, which must be consistent with the Department of Health's medication administration guidelines.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that a licensed registered professional nurse or a trained school employee can administer epinephrine delivery systems to students with a prescription and to others believed to be experiencing an anaphylactic reaction. It also requires annual reporting to the Department of Health on the instances of epinephrine administration in schools. The bill encourages school boards to seek alternative funding for compliance and allows them to apply for reimbursement from the state if they cannot secure such funding. The term "epinephrine delivery system" is defined as per the public health code.
