This bill amends the Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act by adding a new section, 4i, which mandates the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems in designated electric vehicle parking areas. Specifically, it requires that at the time of initial construction of a building or structure, including multiple-family dwellings (but excluding single-family and 1- or 2-family detached dwellings), the owner, operator, or builder must install such a system. Additionally, for existing buildings constructed before the effective date of this amendment, the owner or operator must install the sprinkler system within 180 days in the designated electric vehicle parking areas.

The bill also stipulates that the joint committee on administrative rules will be responsible for creating standards and requirements for the installation of these automatic fire sprinkler systems. Definitions are provided for key terms, including "automatic fire sprinkler system," "electric vehicle," and "joint committee on administrative rules," to ensure clarity in the implementation of this new requirement.
