The bill amends the Revised Judicature Act of 1961 by updating sections related to the jurisdiction and powers of probate judges in specific counties, as well as establishing a new judicial district. Notably, it grants probate judges in the counties of Arenac, Kalkaska, and Antrim the jurisdiction, powers, duties, and title of a district judge, while removing Crawford and Iron from the list of counties where probate judges hold such powers. Additionally, the bill specifies that the eighty-sixth district court will continue to have its current judges until a vacancy occurs, at which point it will be reduced to two judges.

Furthermore, the bill introduces the ninety-ninth district, which consists of Antrim County, and designates the probate judge of Antrim County to serve as the judge of this new district. It also clarifies the process for creating new judicial districts and judgeships, stating that approval from district control units is not required for the creation of the ninety-ninth district. The amendments are set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
