The bill amends the Revised School Code by adding Section 1246a, which establishes salary limitations for superintendents, principals, and other school administrators within school districts and intermediate school districts in Michigan. Specifically, it prohibits these entities from employing individuals in these roles at a salary exceeding the greater of either four times the starting salary for a teacher or three times the average salary for a teacher within the district.
However, there is an exception for existing employment contracts. If a contract that specifies a salary for an individual in one of these roles is already in effect on the effective date of the amendment and does not comply with the new salary limitations, the restrictions will not apply to that individual until the contract expires. This provision allows for a transition period for districts that may currently have administrators earning above the newly established salary caps.
