This bill amends the Michigan Insurance Code of 1956 by adding a new section, 3406jj, which mandates that health insurance policies providing coverage for prescription contraceptives must include a 12-month supply of these contraceptives, dispensed at one time, unless a smaller supply is requested by the insured or prescribed by a healthcare provider. Additionally, the bill requires coverage for necessary outpatient consultations and medical services related to the prescription and dispensing of contraceptives. The coverage must be provided regardless of whether the insured was covered at the time the contraceptive was first dispensed, and any applicable copayments, deductibles, or coinsurance must align with those for other prescription drugs.

Furthermore, the bill prohibits insurers from imposing utilization controls that limit the supply of contraceptives to less than a 12-month supply unless deemed medically inappropriate by the FDA. It also specifies that insurers are not required to provide this coverage during the last month of an insured's plan year. The bill defines key terms such as "pharmacy," "prescriber," and "prescription contraceptive," and it will apply to health insurance policies starting December 31, 2025.
