This bill amends the Revised School Code of 1976 by adding a new section, 1303a, which establishes policies regarding the use of wireless communications devices in schools. Specifically, it mandates that school districts and public school academies implement a policy that prohibits students in grades K to 5 from possessing wireless communications devices on school grounds. For students in grades 6 and above, the policy restricts the use of such devices during instructional time, breaks, lunch, and recess. Additionally, students in grades 9 and above are prohibited from using these devices during instructional time. Schools are also given the authority to impose further restrictions on device usage.

The bill defines "school grounds" as any property used for school purposes, excluding facilities primarily for adult education or college courses, and provides a definition for "wireless communications device" as any electronic device capable of communication or internet access. Furthermore, the bill repeals section 1303 of the Revised School Code, which may have contained previous regulations regarding wireless communications devices.
