The bill amends the existing law regarding the construction and remodeling of school buildings in Michigan by adding a new section, Sec. 1e. This section prohibits the installation of specific telecommunications equipment, namely 4G and 5G main transmission antennas, support antennas, and any equipment over 6 cubic feet in size that supports 4G or 5G transmission, within 1,500 feet of a school building. However, equipment that was installed before the effective date of this amendment is exempt from this prohibition.
Additionally, the bill clarifies that the installation of small internet routers is allowed unless they weigh 15 pounds or more or are solely used for providing 4G or 5G service. The definitions for 4G and 5G technologies are also included in the new section to ensure clarity regarding the types of equipment being regulated.
