The bill amends the existing law regulating political activity in Michigan by adding a new section, 6c, which prohibits members of the Michigan Senate or House of Representatives from receiving any compensation, aside from their legally provided salary, for communicating with various government officials to influence legislative or administrative actions. This includes officials from both the executive and legislative branches of the state and other governments.

Additionally, the bill establishes penalties for violations of this new provision, classifying such violations as misdemeanors that could result in imprisonment for up to 90 days, a fine of up to $1,000, or both. The new law is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
