HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.329
The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of
Representatives, offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Jim Haadsma.
2 Whereas, We take this opportunity to recognize the admirable
3 service of the Honorable Jim Haadsma, a Grand Rapids native and
4 longtime resident of Battle Creek, who has served this chamber as
5 the Representative for both the Forty-fourth District and former
6 Sixty-second District. Since assuming office in 2019,
7 Representative Haadsma has represented with distinction not only
8 the interests of his constituents in the cities of Albion, Battle
9 Creek, and Springfield; and the townships of Bedford, Clarence,
10 Convis, Lee, Pennfield, and Sheridan; but those of Michiganders
11 statewide; and
12 Whereas, Representative Haadsma’s life experiences prior to

1 joining the Legislature marked him as well-prepared to serve his
2 constituency. As the son of missionaries, Representative Haadsma
3 spent a significant portion of his formative years abroad in
4 Africa, where he first developed a deep appreciation for and
5 understanding of public service. This is reflected in his
6 involvement in numerous community organizations, including the
7 Kiwanis Club of Battle Creek, Haven of Rest Ministries, Salvation
8 Army, Battle Creek NAACP, Art Center of Battle Creek, Urban League
9 of Battle Creek, and the Calhoun County Bar Association. The
10 Honorable Representative also served as a member of the Calhoun
11 County Board of Commissioners from 2009 to 2018. Representative
12 Haadsma received his bachelor’s degree in English from Michigan
13 State University and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State
14 University, which he would use to support an ongoing legal career
15 at McCroskey Law, PLC. In addition to these educational and
16 professional accomplishments, Representative Haadsma is also a
17 proud father to a daughter – Tess – and three sons – Stewart, Jon,
18 and Jerry; and
19 Whereas, Since his election to this chamber, Representative
20 Haadsma has demonstrated a deep commitment to improving the lives
21 of his constituents in the Forty-fourth and former Sixty-second
22 districts. He has served with distinction as the chair of the Joint
23 Committee on Administrative Rules and Labor Committee.
24 Representative Haadsma also served as a member of the committees on
25 Energy, Transportation and Infrastructure, Communications and
26 Technology, and Health Policy. The Representative’s dedication to
27 and involvement in the business of the House of Representatives
28 stand as a clear example of what makes a successful public servant
29 and strong leader; now, therefore, be it

1 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this
2 expression of tribute to commend and thank the Honorable Jim
3 Haadsma for his notable contributions to this legislative body and
4 our state; and be it further
5 Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
6 Representative Jim Haadsma as evidence of our appreciation and best
7 wishes as he leaves this legislative body.
