HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.326
The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of
Representatives, offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Abraham Aiyash.
2 Whereas, For serving this legislative body with great
3 commitment, we commend and thank Representative Abraham Aiyash. He
4 has worked diligently for four years on behalf of the residents of
5 first the Fourth and now the Ninth Districts in Hamtramck and
6 Detroit’s Eastside and Downtown neighborhoods; and
7 Whereas, Representative Aiyash’s prior experiences developed
8 the skills he would need to excel in this role. He graduated from
9 James Madison College at Michigan State University with a
10 bachelor’s degree in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy.
11 Before first being elected to the Legislature in 2020, he cofounded
12 the Halimah Project, a non-profit for mentoring young refugees, and

1 was an active community organizer; and
2 Whereas, In his time in this chamber, Representative Aiyash
3 has proudly served in leadership, first as the Assistant Democratic
4 Floor Leader and then as the Majority Floor Leader—the first Muslim
5 in House majority leadership—where he provided invaluable service
6 in managing the passage of legislation in the House of
7 Representatives. His leadership contributions also extended to
8 service on the Legislative Council. In addition, he drew upon his
9 education and experience while serving on the Committees on
10 Commerce and Tourism; Agriculture; Families, Children, and Seniors;
11 Communications and Technology; and Natural Resources and Outdoor
12 Recreation; now, therefore, be it
13 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we thank
14 Representative Abraham Aiyash for his service to his district, the
15 Michigan House of Representatives, and the State of Michigan; and
16 be it further
17 Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
18 Representative Aiyash and his family as a sign of our lasting
19 esteem for his contributions to his district, this chamber and its
20 work, and the entire state of Michigan.
