HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.313
Reps. Outman, Markkanen, Cavitt, Bierlein, Alexander and Rigas
offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare October 2024 as Disability Employment
2 Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Disability Employment Awareness Month is a national
4 campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues
5 and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's
6 workers with disabilities; and
7 Whereas, According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in
8 2020, the employment-population ratio for people with a disability
9 was 17.9 percent, compared to 61.8 percent for those without a
10 disability; and
11 Whereas, The state of Michigan recognizes the importance of

1 inclusive workplaces that welcome the talents of all people,
2 including people with disabilities; and

4 Whereas, The state of Michigan recognizes the many entities
5 and organizations working to lower barriers of employment and
6 empower those living with disabilities the ability to engage in
7 meaningful employment; and
8 Whereas, The state of Michigan recognizes a comprehensive list
9 of named organizations is untenable in this resolution and applauds
10 all organizations improving employment access to the dedicated and
11 outstanding disabled workforce of Michigan; and
12 Whereas, The state of Michigan recognizes, in the year of
13 2024, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Corewell Health and
14 Corewell Health’s Disability Focused Business Resource Group
15 Entitled AdaptAbilities, Disability Network Michigan, and Comprenew
16 among the many organizations making Michigan a place for everyone
17 to thrive; and
18 Whereas, The state of Michigan is committed to promoting
19 policies and practices that increase employment opportunities for
20 individuals with disabilities; now, therefore, be it
21 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
22 this legislative body declare October 2024 as Disability Employment
23 Awareness Month in the state of Michigan; and be it further
24 Resolved, That we commend this observance for all Michiganders
25 and encourage citizens to learn more about disability employment
26 issues and what they can do to support individuals with
27 disabilities and their families.
