HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.293
The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of
Representatives, offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution of tribute offered as a memorial for Timothy
2 Sneller, former member of the House of Representatives.
3 Whereas, It is with great sorrow that the members of the House
4 of Representatives learned about the passing of Timothy (Tim)
5 Sneller. He will be remembered as a dedicated public servant by his
6 constituents in the Fiftieth Representative District, which
7 included the city of Burton and surrounding Genesee County areas;
8 and
9 Whereas, Raised by parents Anthony and Margaret alongside
10 siblings Carol, Ronald, and Sandi, Tim Sneller was a lifelong
11 Genesee County resident. A graduate of Bentley High School in
12 Burton, Tim Sneller earned a bachelor’s degree in political science

1 and a secondary teaching certificate in social studies and English
2 from the University of Michigan-Flint; and
3 Whereas, While pursuing his bachelor’s degree, Tim Sneller
4 worked for the General Motors Truck and Bus Assembly in Flint. This
5 led to him being a proud union member with UAW Local 598, for which
6 he served as an alternate committeeman; and
7 Whereas, In 1983, Tim Sneller headed to Lansing to begin what
8 would become a nearly four-decade career with the Michigan
9 Legislature. From 1983 to 2016, he served as a legislative aide to
10 a number of state legislators, imparting upon him an unrivaled
11 amount of institutional knowledge. In 2016, Tim Sneller himself
12 successfully ran for a seat in the House of Representatives, where
13 he would serve his constituents in the Fiftieth Representative
14 District until 2022; and
15 Whereas, Tim Sneller’s energetic and youthful personality is
16 fondly remembered by those who knew him, with many recalling his
17 humor and indelible spirit. However, as those who worked with Tim
18 Sneller will often recall, he always maintained a level of honesty
19 and candor that was often missing in the world; and
20 Whereas, While his current and former colleagues remember his
21 professionalism and commitment to the legislative process, Tim
22 Sneller’s passion and dedication to the community that raised him
23 is what is most often remembered by those who knew and worked with
24 him. During his time as a member of the House of Representatives,
25 Tim Sneller held 300 constituent coffee hours in his district and
26 personally responded to over 30,000 constituent calls during the
27 COVID-19 pandemic. It has been said that no one worked harder for
28 the residents of Burton and its surrounding areas than Tim Sneller;

1 Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives, Tim
2 Sneller worked on issues across the board that he believed would
3 better the lives of not only those in his district, but also
4 Michiganders statewide. This included introducing and passing
5 legislation dealing with transportation and vehicle safety, as well
6 as advocating for stronger civil rights protections. Tim Sneller’s
7 passions also extended to the growth of job opportunities and the
8 economy, children and education, and natural resources; and
9 Whereas, After leaving the House of Representatives in 2022,
10 Tim Sneller continued to serve the community he loved. He worked as
11 a legislative staffer in both chambers, while also working as a
12 substitute teacher in Burton schools. Tim Sneller also served as a
13 member of the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce, the Burton Chamber
14 of Commerce, and the Greater Flint Health Coalition Board of
15 Directors, as well as acted as a sponsor of the Burton Project
16 Heat’s On; and
17 Whereas, Upon Tim Sneller’s passing, we offer our condolences
18 to his loved ones. Tim Sneller’s contributions to this chamber and
19 the State of Michigan will be remembered; now, therefore, be it
20 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this
21 expression of our highest tribute to honor the memory of Timothy
22 Sneller, a member of the House of Representatives from 2017 to
23 2022; and be it further
24 Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
25 Sneller family as evidence of our lasting esteem for his memory.
