HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.301
Reps. Jaime Greene, Alexander, Bezotte, Haadsma and Paiz offered
the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare September 29-October 5, 2024, as
2 Homeschool Week in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Our state recognizes the importance of education in
4 shaping the future of its citizens; and
5 Whereas, Section 380.10 of the Michigan Constitution states:
6 "It is the natural, fundamental right of parents and legal
7 guardians to determine and direct the care, teaching, and education
8 of their children"; and
9 Whereas, Homeschooling is an essential form of education that
10 allows parents and guardians to take a more direct role in their
11 children's learning; and

1 Whereas, Homeschooling provides an opportunity for
2 individualized instruction tailored to the unique needs and
3 abilities of each student; and
4 Whereas, Homeschooling families contribute significantly to
5 the educational landscape of Michigan, fostering a sense of
6 community and diversity; now, therefore, be it
7 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
8 this legislative body declare September 29-October 5, 2024, as
9 Homeschool Week in the state of Michigan. We recognize the hard
10 work, dedication, and commitment of home educator parents and
11 guardians in providing quality education to their children and
12 acknowledge the right of parents and guardians as outlined in the
13 Michigan Constitution to choose homeschooling as a legitimate
14 educational alternative and emphasizes the importance of respecting
15 the diversity of educational choices available to Michigan
16 families; and be it further
17 Resolved, That Homeschool Week aims to promote and celebrate
18 the benefits of homeschooling as a viable educational option for
19 families in Michigan. We commend homeschooling parents and
20 guardians for their dedication to their children's education and
21 for contributing positively to the overall educational fabric of
22 our state.
