HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.300
Reps. Aragona, Bezotte, Breen, Glanville, Haadsma, MacDonell,
McFall, Paiz and Rheingans offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare September 2024 as Canine Companions
2 Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Dogs have long been known as "man's best friend" and
4 have provided companionship, service, and love to countless
5 individuals across the state of Michigan; and
6 Whereas, Michigan is home to many dedicated volunteer puppy
7 raisers who selflessly devote their time and resources to training
8 and socializing future service dogs, preparing them for their
9 important roles in assisting individuals with disabilities; and
10 Whereas, These volunteer puppy raisers, alongside their
11 puppies, play a crucial role in the development of highly skilled

1 service dogs that offer essential support and independence to
2 individuals with physical, cognitive, and developmental
3 disabilities; and
4 Whereas, The work of organizations like Canine Companions and
5 the contributions of these volunteers and their puppies highlight
6 the strong bond between humans and dogs, demonstrating the powerful
7 impact these animals have on the lives of those in need; and
8 Whereas, Recognizing and honoring the efforts of Michigan's
9 volunteer puppy raisers and their future service dogs can inspire
10 others to support and participate in these valuable programs,
11 thereby enriching the lives of many within our community; now,
12 therefore, be it
13 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
14 this legislative body declare September 2024 as Canine Companions
15 Month in the state of Michigan. We acknowledge and support the
16 vital contributions of Michigan's volunteer puppy raisers and their
17 canine companions, and affirm our commitment to fostering an
18 inclusive and supportive environment for these dedicated
19 individuals and their dogs. We celebrate the unique bond between
20 humans and dogs and recognize the transformative role that well-
21 trained service dogs play in the lives of individuals with
22 disabilities.
