A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 282a (MCL 168.282a) and by adding section 282b.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 282a. At its fall state convention of 1964, each
2 political party may nominate 8 candidates for membership on the
3 state board of education. Two candidates shall be nominated for 2-
4 year terms, 2 for 4-year terms, 2 for 6-year terms and 2 for 8-year
5 terms. At its fall state convention of 1966, and every 2 years

1 thereafter, each political party may, subject to section 282b,
2 nominate 2 candidates for membership on the state board of
3 education.
4 Sec. 282b. (1) This state is divided into 4 districts for each
5 political party to select members to the state board of education.
6 The districts are constituted as follows:
7 (a) District 1 consists of the counties described in section
8 302(a) of the revised judicature act of 1961, 1961 PA 236, MCL
9 600.302.
10 (b) District 2 consists of the counties described in section
11 302(b) of the revised judicature act of 1961, 1961 PA 236, MCL
12 600.302.
13 (c) District 3 consists of the counties described in section
14 302(c) of the revised judicature act of 1961, 1961 PA 236, MCL
15 600.302.
16 (d) District 4 consists of the counties described in section
17 302(d) of the revised judicature act of 1961, 1961 PA 236, MCL
18 600.302.
19 (2) Each political party shall nominate candidates for
20 membership on the state board of education as follows:
21 (a) At its fall state convention of 2026, and every 8 years
22 thereafter, each political party shall nominate for membership on
23 the state board of education 1 candidate who is a resident of
24 district 1 and 1 candidate who is a resident of district 4.
25 (b) At its fall state convention of 2028, and every 8 years
26 thereafter, each political party shall nominate for membership on
27 the state board of education 1 candidate who is a resident of
28 district 2 and 1 candidate who is a resident of district 3.
29 (c) At its fall state convention of 2030, and every 8 years

1 thereafter, each political party shall nominate for membership on
2 the state board of education 1 candidate who is a resident of
3 district 1 and 1 candidate who is a resident of district 4.
4 (d) At its fall state convention of 2032, and every 8 years
5 thereafter, each political party shall nominate for membership on
6 the state board of education 1 candidate who is a resident of
7 district 2 and 1 candidate who is a resident of district 3.
