HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.275
Reps. MacDonell, Bezotte, Breen, Byrnes, Glanville, Haadsma,
Hill, Liberati, Paiz, Rogers, Wilson and Young offered the following
resolution:
1 A resolution to declare June 15, 2024, as World Elder Abuse
2 Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Michigan’s older adults are valued members of our
4 state, and it is our responsibility to ensure their safety and
5 minimize crimes against them; and
6 Whereas, One in ten older adults in the United States
7 experience abuse, neglect and exploitation and crimes against older
8 adults often go unnoticed and unreported, leaving victims without
9 the help and support they need; and
10 Whereas, All Michigan residents should watch for signs of

1 abuse, such as physical trauma, withdrawal, depression, anxiety and
2 fear of family members, friends, or caregivers; efforts to
3 identify, report and investigate elder abuse are critically
4 important in reducing the harm to older adults; and
5 Whereas, To help victims and to prevent more older adults
6 from being victimized, we urge Michiganders to learn more about the
7 signs of elder abuse and how to report it; on this day, we join
8 with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Division
9 of Adult Services and the Attorney General to help raise awareness
10 of elder abuse in Michigan; now, therefore, be it
11 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
12 this legislative body declare June 15, 2024, as World Elder Abuse
13 Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.
