HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.266
Reps. Andrews, Hood, Rheingans, Price, Brixie, Tsernoglou,
Haadsma and Miller offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare May 20-27, 2024, as Michigan Beach
2 Safety Week in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, The beautiful coastal and inland beaches of “The
4 Great Lakes State” represent a world-renowned recreational
5 resource; and
6 Whereas, Michiganders and visitors alike are drawn to these
7 beaches by the millions each year for water and beach activities;
8 and
9 Whereas, The aquatic environment has dangers, particularly rip
10 currents, that can be effectively managed through public awareness
11 and vigilance; and

1 Whereas, For reasons of public safety, an annual reminder of
2 the joys and hazards associated with the aquatic environment are
3 appropriate at the commencement of the busy summer beach season;
4 and
5 Whereas, Michiganders and visitors alike must remember: Learn
6 to Swim, Learn Rip Current Safety, Never Swim Alone, Designate a
7 Water Watcher, Alcohol and Water Don’t Mix, Feet First Water Entry,
8 Life Jackets Save Lives, Observe Signs & Flags, Beat the Heat &
9 Block the Sun, and Be Aware of Water Temperatures; now, therefore,
10 be it
11 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
12 this legislative body declare May 20-27, 2024, as Michigan Beach
13 Safety Week in Michigan. We urge all residents using our beaches to
14 enjoy themselves at the beach this year, while taking appropriate
15 measures to protect themselves and their children.
