SENATE RESOLUTION NO.122
Senators Huizenga, Outman, Santana and Theis offered the
following resolution:
1 A resolution to urge Congress to fund the construction of a
2 new air traffic control tower for the Gerald R. Ford International
3 Airport.
4 Whereas, The Gerald R. Ford International Airport, located in
5 Cascade Township near Grand Rapids, Michigan, is the largest
6 commercial airport in western Michigan and second largest airport
7 in the state. This airport has been ranked by the Federal Aviation
8 Administration as one of the fastest growing airports in the United
9 States. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport, originally named
10 the Kent County Airport, was built in 1963 and is in desperate need
11 of an update to its air traffic control tower; and
12 Whereas, The current air traffic control tower in use at the

1 Gerald R. Ford International Airport is over six decades old,
2 making it the second-oldest control tower in the nation’s top 100
3 markets. Recent terminal upgrades mark this airport as dedicated to
4 setting the bar high regarding the quality of the services it
5 provides. Securing funding for a new air traffic control tower
6 would ensure that the Gerald R. Ford International Airport
7 maintains this trend; now, therefore, be it
8 Resolved by the Senate, That we urge Congress to fund the
9 construction of a new air traffic control tower for the Gerald R.
10 Ford International Airport; and be it further
11 Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
12 President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United
13 States House of Representatives, and the members of the Michigan
14 congressional delegation.
