Kunse, Jaime Greene, Zorn, Borton, Thompson, Schmaltz, Bierlein,
Martin, Tisdel, Bruck, Aiyash, Bollin, Brabec, Breen, Tyrone Carter,
Fitzgerald, Haadsma, Harris, Hill, Hoskins, MacDonell, Morgan, Morse,
Rogers, Schuette, Shannon, Weiss, Wilson and Young offered the
following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare May 2024 as Military Appreciation
2 Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, From our earliest days as a nation, our United States
4 armed forces have acted with great courage and valor to defend,
5 protect, and preserve the liberty we cherish. Indeed, our very
6 heritage of freedom and democracy is owed to the devotion to
7 country by and the vigilance of generations of servicemen and

1 women; and
2 Whereas, It is fitting at this time to honor the legacy of
3 strength, courage, and sacrifice of all those who have served and
4 are now serving our country. Whether active duty, National Guard,
5 or Reserve, our military has stood ready in times of peace and in
6 times of conflict to answer our nation is call to duty; and
7 Whereas, This selfless service to country often demands
8 special sacrifice and hardship not only from those who serve, but
9 from their families as well. Throughout our nation’s history, many
10 families have borne the greatest burden of all through the loss of
11 a loved one in defense of freedom. It is incumbent upon us as
12 citizens of this great land to remember those sacrifices and to
13 honor our servicemen and women and our veterans, especially those
14 who died in defense of our freedom; and
15 Whereas, The month of May has been designated by Congress as a
16 particularly appropriate time to recognize and honor our military
17 families as we celebrate Loyalty Day, Victory in Europe (VE) Day,
18 Military Spouse Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day all during
19 the month of May; now, therefore, be it
20 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
21 this legislative body declare May 2024 as Military Appreciation
22 Month in the state of Michigan. We express our full support and
23 gratitude to our servicemen and women, as well as our veterans; and
24 be it further
25 Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
26 Michigan Department of Military Affairs.
