HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.238
Reps. Schuette, Bierlein, Aiyash, Alexander, Bezotte, Breen,
Tyrone Carter, Glanville, Haadsma, Harris, Hill, Paiz, Rheingans,
Rogers and Young offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare May 2024 as National Lyme Disease
2 Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Lyme disease is a difficult to diagnose and treat
4 tick-borne disease with significant long-term health consequences;
5 and
6 Whereas, There are an estimated 476,000 new cases of Lyme
7 disease annually, causing suffering throughout the United States;
8 and
9 Whereas, Lyme disease is often confused with common illnesses
10 but can damage the heart, nervous system, and joints and cause

1 paralysis, encephalitis, seizures, and death if untreated; and
2 Whereas, Estimated Lyme disease cases in Michigan have been
3 rising since 2012; now, therefore, be it
4 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That members of this
5 legislative body declare May 2024 as National Lyme Disease
6 Awareness Month in the state of Michigan; and be it further
7 Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
8 Michigan Lyme Disease Association with our highest esteem.
