Reps. Brixie, Hope, Dievendorf, Roth, Aiyash, Alexander,
Bezotte, Brabec, Byrnes, Fitzgerald, Glanville, Haadsma, Hill, Hood,
Hoskins, Mentzer, Morgan, Paiz, Rheingans, Schuette, Shannon, Wilson,
Witwer and Young offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to recognize the 1st anniversary of the tragic
2 shooting at Michigan State University.
3 Whereas, On February 13th, 2023, a senseless and horrific
4 tragedy occurred at Michigan State University in the form of a mass
5 shooting which claimed the lives of three innocent individuals,
6 injured five others and impacted the students, faculty, alumni, and
7 family members of the entire Michigan State University community;

1 Whereas, The victims of this senseless act of violence were
2 students, faculty, and members of the Michigan State University
3 community, whose lives were irreparably altered or tragically and
4 unjustly cut short; and
5 Whereas, This attack exemplifies an incomprehensible disregard
6 for the value of life. The Michigan State University community, as
7 well as the greater Michigan community, has been profoundly
8 impacted by this catastrophe, experiencing grief, shock, and a
9 profound sense of loss; and
10 Whereas, A remarkable debt of gratitude is owed to the first
11 responders, law enforcement officers, 9-1-1 dispatchers, medical
12 and mental health professionals, and community members during and
13 after the shooting whose heroic actions demonstrated remarkable
14 courage in the face of adversity. To the law enforcement officers
15 and first responders who risked their lives to ensure the safety of
16 campus and well-being of students. To the medical and mental health
17 professionals who have provided ongoing care to those impacted by
18 the shooting. To the students, faculty, staff, and other members of
19 the Michigan State University community who stepped up to comfort
20 and protect those around them. We commend your remarkable courage,
21 compassion, and resilience in the face of impossible odds; and
22 Whereas, On the one-year anniversary of this tragedy, it is
23 imperative for us as a legislative body to come together in
24 solidarity with the victims, their families, and the entire
25 Michigan State University community to offer our support; now,
26 therefore, be it
27 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
28 this legislative body recognize the 1st anniversary of the tragic
29 shooting at Michigan State University. We extend this heartfelt

1 tribute in memory of the victims on the one-year anniversary of the
2 Michigan State University shooting and express our unwavering
3 support for the Michigan State University community as it continues
4 to heal from this tragedy; and be it further
5 Resolved, That we honor the memory of the victims by
6 reaffirming our dedication to preventing future acts of gun
7 violence, ensuring the safety of all, promoting mental health
8 awareness and support, and fostering a culture of peace, respect,
9 and compassion in our society.
