A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled
"Public health code,"
(MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding part 173A.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 PART 173A. MEDICAL ASSISTING
2 Sec. 17351. (1) As used in this part:
3 (a) "Chiropractor" means that term as defined in section
4 16401.
5 (b) "Licensed practitioner" means any of the following:

1 (i) A physician.
2 (ii) A physician's assistant.
3 (iii) A nurse practitioner.
4 (iv) A chiropractor.
5 (v) An optometrist.
6 (vi) A podiatric physician.
7 (c) "Nurse practitioner" means an individual licensed as a
8 registered professional nurse under part 172 who has been granted a
9 specialty certification as a nurse practitioner by the Michigan
10 board of nursing under section 17210.
11 (d) "Optometrist" means that term as defined in section 17401.
12 (e) "Physician" means that term as defined in section 17001 or
13 17501.
14 (f) "Physician's assistant" means an individual who is
15 licensed as a physician's assistant under part 170, part 175, or
16 part 180.
17 (g) "Podiatric physician" means that term as defined in
18 section 18001.
19 (h) "Practice of medical assisting" means the performance of
20 clinical and administrative tasks under the supervision of a
21 licensed practitioner.
22 (i) "State licensed medical assistant" means an individual who
23 is licensed or otherwise authorized under this article to engage in
24 the practice of medical assisting.
25 (2) In addition to the definitions of this part, article 1
26 contains general definitions and principles of construction
27 applicable to all articles in this code and part 161 contains
28 definitions applicable to this part.
29 Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect
