A bill to amend 1905 PA 299, entitled
"An act to provide for changing and determining the names of
divorced women,"
by amending the title and section 1 (MCL 552.391).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 TITLE
2 An act to provide for changing and determining the names of
3 divorced women.individuals.
4 Sec. 1. The circuit courts of this state, whenever a decree
5 when a judgment of divorce is granted, may, at the instance request

1 of the woman, a party to the action, whether complainant plaintiff
2 or defendant, decree to restore to her her the party's birth name,
3 or the surname she the party legally bore prior to her before the
4 marriage to the husband spouse in the divorce action, or allow her
5 the party to adopt another surname if the change is not sought with
6 any fraudulent or evil intent.
7 Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect
8 unless Senate Joint Resolution ____ or House Joint Resolution F
9 (request no. 00367'23) of the 102nd Legislature becomes a part of
10 the state constitution of 1963 as provided in section 1 of article
11 XII of the state constitution of 1963.
