HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.28
Reps. Martin, Kunse, Mueller, Fink, Greene, Beson, Bollin,
Neyer, Steele, Alexander, BeGole, Tyrone Carter, Glanville, Haadsma,
Hope, Rheingans, Rogers, Schuette and Wilson offered the following
resolution:
1 A resolution to declare February 2023 as Career and Technical
2 Education Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, A competitive economy requires workers who are
4 prepared for skilled professions; and
5 Whereas, Career and technical education (CTE) training matches
6 employability skills with workforce demand and provides relevant
7 academic and technical coursework leading to industry-recognized
8 credentials for secondary, post-secondary, and adult learners; and
9 Whereas, CTE ensures that competitive and skilled workers are

1 ready, willing, and capable of holding jobs in high-wage, high-
2 skill, and in-demand career fields such as science, technology,
3 engineering, mathematics, nursing, allied health, construction,
4 information technology, energy sustainability, and many other
5 career fields that are vital in keeping Michigan competitive in our
6 global economy; and
7 Whereas, Investing in CTE training for Michigan schools helps
8 meet the very real and immediate challenges of economic
9 development, student achievement, and competitiveness; and
10 Whereas, Providing real-world training to Michigan students
11 during their secondary education gives them experience in multiple
12 career field opportunities, and
13 Whereas, Over 529,000 Michigan job openings are projected
14 through the year 2028, with a current median wage of nearly $59,000
15 per year for skilled trades jobs that do not require a bachelor's
16 degree yet increasingly require some level of postsecondary
17 education; and
18 Whereas, Over 106,000 Michigan high school students were
19 enrolled in CTE during the 2021-2022 school year, and more than 95%
20 of Michigan students who focused their education in CTE go on to
21 participate in postsecondary educational opportunities, seek
22 further advanced career and technical education training, volunteer
23 for military service, or find employment within a year of
24 graduation; now, therefore, be it
25 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
26 this legislative body declare February 2023 as Career and Technical
27 Education Month in the state of Michigan. We urge continued
28 awareness of career and technical training for the students of
29 Michigan to ensure the sustainability of Michigan’s workforce for

1 the years to come; and be it further
2 Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
3 Governor of Michigan and the State Superintendent.
