This bill is reported out by the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary pursuant to Public Law 2025, chapter 436, section 6. Public Law 2025, chapter 436 authorized closure of the Madawaska District Court. It further authorized the Chief Judge of the District Court to reallocate any municipality or unorganized territory between the Western Aroostook and Eastern Aroostook judicial divisions for the convenience of the public. This bill codifies in statute the geographic boundaries between the Western Aroostook division, served by the Fort Kent District Court, and the Eastern Aroostook division, served by the Caribou District Court, that were established by the Chief Judge and that took effect upon closure of the Madawaska District Court on November 1, 2025.
