This bill establishes a Medal of Fidelity license plate for qualifying next of kin of fallen service members. It amends Section 67B of chapter 33 of the General Laws to allow these individuals to apply for a medal of fidelity through the adjutant general, which will include a notification about their eligibility to receive the license plate free of charge upon approval of their application. The notification will inform applicants that they are entitled to the license plate and will provide a link to the online application created by the registrar of motor vehicles.

Additionally, the bill amends Section 2 of chapter 90 of the General Laws to require the registrar to provide distinctive registration plates without charge to owners of private passenger vehicles who have been awarded the medal of fidelity. These plates will feature an image of the medal and ribbon, along with the words "MEDAL OF FIDELITY." The registrar, in consultation with the adjutant general, will also be responsible for notifying past recipients of the medal about their eligibility for the license plate through a letter that includes the application. The registrar must complete this notification process within six months after the license plate is designed and made available.
