This bill authorizes the general manager of the town of Norwood to appoint retired police officers as special police officers. The amendment to Section 1 of chapter 81 of the acts of 2010, as previously amended, replaces the first sentence to clarify that these appointments can be made for the purpose of performing police details or other related duties. It specifies that the retired officers must have retired in good standing from a Massachusetts community based on superannuation.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the special police officers appointed under this act must adhere to the requirements of chapter 6E of the General Laws. This includes maintaining certification and good standing with the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, as well as fulfilling all annual in-service and other training requirements set by the municipal police training committee.
