The proposed bill mandates the Department of Environmental Protection, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health, to conduct a comprehensive study on the environmental and economic impacts of discharging spent fuel pool water from nuclear power plants. This includes examining various methods of discharge that may increase the evaporation of radioactive materials, such as tritium and boron. The study will focus on the potential effects on consumer perception and industries like fishing, aquaculture, tourism, and restaurants, as well as monitoring pollution levels in land, air, and water due to such discharges.

Furthermore, the bill requires the Department of Environmental Protection to submit a detailed report by December 31, 2026, outlining the study's findings, recommendations, and any proposed standards or legislation needed to address the identified issues. This report will be presented to the Joint Committee on Public Health, the Joint Committee on Environmental and Natural Resources, and the clerks of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
