The bill amends Chapter 69 of the General Laws by adding a new section, Section 40, which mandates the development of informational materials regarding type 1 diabetes for the parents and guardians of students. The Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and other relevant entities, is tasked with creating these materials, which will be periodically updated and made accessible through the department's website to all school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools.

Starting January 1, 2027, school districts and charter schools are required to provide these informational materials in writing to parents or guardians when a student first enrolls in elementary school and again upon entering grade 6. The information may cover various aspects of type 1 diabetes, including descriptions of the condition, risk factors, warning signs, recommendations for consulting primary care providers, details about the screening process, and guidance on developing treatment plans following a diagnosis.
